The Puppy Mamma offers a range of essential services dedicated to the welfare of pregnant dogs, nursing mamma dogs, and puppies in need. Our primary purpose is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned, neglected, and surrendered puppies and pregnant dogs, providing them with a second chance at a loving forever home. Our comprehensive services include rescue operations, where we rescue dogs from precarious situations, whether they are strays, victims of abuse, or at risk of euthanasia in overcrowded shelters. Once in our care, each dog receives personalized attention, including veterinary care, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and rehabilitation as needed to address physical and behavioral challenges. Our adoption process is thorough, ensuring that each pup finds a suitable and loving home. At Puppy Mamma Rescue, our mission is to be a beacon of hope for puppies and dogs in need and to create a compassionate community where every dog has the opportunity to thrive and find their forever home.

We are an all volunteer run organization. No wages or salaries are earned here, just lots of sloppy puppy kisses are what we receive in return for our hard work.

This is just a few of our volunteers and what they have to say about their time here:

Sandy - Founder / Director

When I decided to start The Puppy Mamma Rescue in April of 2017 I had no idea what I was getting myself into.  I did, however, know one thing. . . I needed to surround myself with the best of the best to help me.  I have the most wonderful volunteers, fosters, donors and affiliated organizations there are.  Because of them we are able to attract the best adopters.  Our mission, from the beginning, has been simple. It is to rescue puppies and adult dogs that have been abandoned, neglected or abused. We then ensure they receive the appropriate medical care which includes spay/neuter and vaccines before their permanent homes are found. Over the past 7 years we have made good on that commitment with an organization entirely staffed by volunteers who have dedicated their time, energy, creativity and skills to accomplish these goals.  Most importantly, we have supporters who have donated the resources necessary to make our goals a reality. The Puppy Mamma Rescue has been an amazing journey and a lot of hard work!  It is a team effort that has been well worth it and we are as committed as ever to growing our rescue and doing even more for our community and our canine friends.

In the spring of 2017, my good friend, Sandy, was fostering for a rescue organization. At that time, she could only help a few dogs. She knew she could make a larger impact starting her own rescue organization that primarily dealt with pregnant dogs and their puppies.  I was all in and wanted to help in any way I could.

Since the start of The Puppy Mamma, I have handled the data entry for the organization. I am responsible for maintaining the electronic records of all the dogs and puppies that are cared for by The Puppy Mamma. The records include basic information from the dog’s arrival, vaccinations, medical and surgical information and placement. This allows us to always have records stored electronically and readily available.

Through the past 7 years of ups and downs (pandemic, supply chain issues, sick and wounded dogs), The Puppy Mamma organization has consistently put the welfare of these dogs and finding their forever home as our primary goal. I am proud to have been with The Puppy Mamma since the beginning.

In 2018 while I was scrolling through Facebook, I saw a friend’s post of her bottle-feeding puppies and asked where she was doing this. Little did I know of this awesome rescue just 4 houses away from mine in Apache Junction.  I offered to help bottle feed these tiny puppies and have been a volunteer ever since.  In the winter months when I’m in Arizona, I help socialize the puppies and mamma dogs along with working alongside the other volunteers teaching these youngsters leash manners and building confidence in these sometimes fearful puppies.

Much of my time is spent online sending out Thank You letters to our donors, year-end tax letters and entering adopter/puppy information into our database, along with sending out our newsletter. This works out well since I summer in the Blue Ridge mountains, so I still get to feel so much part of this rescue even though I’m 1800 miles away.

The Puppy Mamma Rescue is a very unique rescue and has an amazing group of volunteers, all led by a great director who has passion for what we do.  It is a privilege and honor to volunteer for The Puppy Mamma Rescue.

I have been a volunteer at The Puppy Mamma for about 4 years. My main functions are assisting with kennel cleaning, vaccinations and microchipping. Additionally, sorting and putting away donations and any other things The Puppy Mamma may need. I thoroughly enjoy my time there and love being a part of finding these babies their forever homes.

I live in the same neighborhood as the rescue and was introduced to Sandy by a neighbor shortly after the rescue was founded. I’ve been volunteering there for about 5 years off and on. The last several years I’ve gotten more involved as I realize how many dogs would be euthanized if not for our efforts. My time there is spent working with shy and frightened dogs; exercising, socializing, leash training and teaching the puppies how to play with humans, and how to get along with other dogs. Many of these dogs have come from abusive situations or they’ve been abandoned so I am constantly humbled by their ability to forgive the abuse and give another human a chance. My goal is to bond with these dogs and create a relationship because I believe if they can bond with me, they can bond with their own human. Every one of these dogs is special and they reveal that to me time and time again, and every one of them deserves to have a loving home. I have 3 rescue dogs of my own, 2 of which are foster fails from The Puppy Mamma.

I am a volunteer at The Puppy Mamma during my time in Arizona in the winter. I help socialize puppies by taking them on brief walks and allowing them to have interaction with other people and puppies. I especially enjoy working with the older puppies. I adopted both of my dogs from The Puppy Mamma, one is now seven years old and the other is four years old.

I moved next door to Sandy in 2015.  At the time she was doing rescue for another organization, and I took in a pregnant mamma dog. Sandy helped me.  In 2017 she started her own rescue so she could help more dogs, making sure they received all the care they needed. The Puppy Mamma was born.

There were many challenges, but through them all Sandy and the rescue have met them and grown. I have fostered for Sandy from the beginning. I took the pregnant mammas, whelped puppies, and fostered them until they were adopted into loving homes.  I also took in sick puppies who needed extra care and time.  Currently I am an emergency foster and help with overflow.

I met Sandy at The Puppy Mamma when she was just beginning the Rescue 7 years ago. Several residents in our neighborhood regularly volunteer. If Sandy has an emergency, or an unplanned errand that needs to be done, I am ready to help. I have taken pups to vet appointments or spaying/neutering, also picked them up after procedures. I will deliver dogs and supplies to an event or greet people at an event. I have transported mama dogs from facilities to the rescue. I have adopted 2 dogs from The Puppy Mamma.
